Chemical Universities

Many foreign and Russian political and public figures, scholars and scientists have become RUDN Emeritus Professors. They include the presidents of Namibia, Angola, Sri Lanka, the South African Republic, Gabon, Guyana and Nigeria; the prime ministers of Bangladesh and Kazakhstan; a UN Chief Executive Officer on Education, Culture and Science; and a Director of CEPES.

Irkutsk National Research Technical University was opened in May 1930 in Irkutsk city as the Siberian Mining Institute, to begin training for the gold mining industry. In 1938 Irkutsk State Technical University was renamed as an Mining and Metallurgy Institute and in 1960 Irkutsk State Technical University became the Polytechnic Institute. In 1950 the basis of the Mining and Metallurgical Institute began training engineers and opened new departments: Civil, Mechanical, Chemical Technology, Engineering, Geological Survey. In 1970 there were 8 faculties of the Institute which trained specialists in 39 profiles. On the left bank of ANGARA river Institute built a town with large academic buildings, dormitories and stadiums. Institute became the largest university in Irkutsk. In June 1978 the first edition of Architects was made by the department of architectural design. Rector (Prof) SB Leonov played a major role in the development of the university. In the 1990s, the Irkutsk State Technical University organized new humanities faculties and in 1993 received the status of a technical university. Irkutsk State Technical University became the largest university in Eastern Siberia, which enrolled more than 15,000 students. In Irkutsk State Technical University students are citizens of the Russian Federation and from more than 18 countries. Today Irkutsk National Research Technical University has more than 100 departments.

Pitirim Sorokin Syktyvkar State University is a public university in the city of Syktyvkar, the capital of the Komi Republic (Russia). With over 9,000 full-time students and more than 600 faculty members, it is the largest institution of higher education in the Komi Republic.

It is a Russian federal state-owned higher education institution based in Saint Petersburg. It is considered to be the oldest and one of the largest universities in Russia. The university has a reputation for having educated the majority of Russia’s political elite, including presidents Vladimir Putin and Dimitry Medvedev, both of whom studied Law at the university. It has 24 faculties and institutes which are further subdivided into departments, and other main structural subdivisions, including the Sports Department, Rectorate, Gorky Scientific Library, Academic Gymnasium, publishing house, and clinic. Saint Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Academy is a higher educational institution in St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Academy was in 1919 in Petrograd city as Petrograd State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute. In 1924 the Petrograd State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute was reorganized into the Chemical-Pharmaceutical Faculty of Leningrad State University. In 1937 the Chemical-Pharmaceutical Faculty became an independent department of the Leningrad Institute of Pharmacy. In 1949 Leningrad Institute of Pharmacy was renamed into Leningrad Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute. In 1990 Leningrad Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute was renamed into St. Petersburg Chemical-Pharmaceutical Institute, which on 24 April 1996 renamed into Saint Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Academy. Every year St. Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Academy trains more than 3000 students from 47 regions of Russia and 21 countries. Till now St. Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Academy has trained 24500 specialists. Today St. Petersburg State Chemical-Pharmaceutical Academy has 34 departments with 450 highly experienced teachers.

The university was ranked 18th by The Three University Missions Ranking in 2022, and 76th by the QS World University Rankings in 2022, #293 in the world by the global Times Higher World University Rankings, and #326 by U.S. News & World Report in 2022. It was the highest-ranking Russian educational institution by QS in 2020, and according to the Nature Index in 2019 the highest ranked Russian university for research output. Moscow State University is generally accepted as the leading higher educational institution in the former Soviet Union.

Moscow State Technical University (Bauman Moscow State Technical University) is the first technical university in Russia. Moscow State Technical University is Russia’s National Research University, Research Center and a valuable object of cultural heritage for the peoples of Russia. July 1, 1830 Emperor Nicholas I approved the Regulations for the handicraft school. The aim of the school was to teach various crafts in conjunction with deep theoretical knowledge. By 1868 the quality of education in the “craft school” had become so high that it was reorganized into a special institution of higher education – the Imperial Moscow Technical College. The main purpose of Imperial Moscow Technical College was to form engineers, architects, mechanical engineers. During Soviet Times the Imperial Moscow Technical College was renamed into Moscow Higher TechnicalSchool. In 1938, Moscow Higher Technical School opened the new department of defense, later in 1948 the Faculty of rocketry was added. On July 27, 1989 by the decision of the USSR State Committee for Public Education, Moscow Higher Technical School was named after N.E. Bauman and awarded the status of a technical university. Till now the University has trained about 200 thousand engineers who are known public figures of high rank, outstanding chief designers, famous scientists, managers of large organizations and astronauts. Today Bauman Moscow State Technical University has 1800 students in 70 departments and a teaching staff of 4500 professors and teachers.

Bashkir State University is a classic university in the city of Ufa of the Russian Federation which is also considered to be the first institution of Bashkortostan and one of the founders of the Association of Russian classical universities. Bashkir State University was established in 1909 as Ufa Teacher Training Institute, which in 1919 Ufa Teacher Training Institute was transformed into Ufa Institute of Education. In 1929 Ufa Institute of Education was established as Bashkir State Pedagogical Institute. In 1857 Bashkir State Pedagogical Institute received the state university status and became Bashkir State University. More than 100 years Bashkir State University has prepared highly qualified specialists for the different areas of the economy. In recent years Bashkir State University has become a major center for postgraduate education, which successfully operates in 67 post-graduate and doctoral studies in 10 scientific specialties. At present Bashkir State University consists of 14 faculties , 4 institutes, as well as branches in the cities of Sibai , Sterlitamak , Neftekamsk and in Uchaly. The educational process in Bashkir State University is carried out in 105 departments under 1000 teachers, including 161 PhD, 477 candidates of sciences, 111 professors, 283 associate professors.

Far Eastern Federal University is a Federal University and the largest university in the Far East of Russia, located in the city of Vladivostok of the Russian Federation. Far Eastern Federal University campus is an intellectual center with unique world class infrastructure, innovative educational and research institutions for preparing highly qualified personnel. Far Eastern State University was established in 1899 in Vladivostok as a Humanities Oriental Institute. In 1920 Humanities Oriental Institute was converted into Far Eastern Federal University. Since 2009 Far Eastern Federal University conducts training in more than 600 educational programs, including 49 Bachelor programs, 90 Master programs, 14 Judiciary, 64 Doctoral studies (Ph.d) and 171 pre-university education programs. In Far Eastern Federal University the total number of graduate students, doctoral students and students of all forms of education are more than 41 thousand. The pedagogical staff of Far Eastern Federal University employs 1598 teachers, including 1058 doctors and candidates of sciences. The total number of staff members in Far Eastern Federal University is approximately 5 thousand.
