Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography was formed in 1930 as the Land Survey Institute was divided into two institutions of higher education: Moscow Geodesy Institute (now Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography and the Moscow Institute of Land Management). In 1993 the Moscow Geodesy Institute was transformed into Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography. Today Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography prepares graduates in the field of Geodesy, Mapping, Aerial Photography, Photogrammetry, Optical Instruments, Geographic Information Systems, as well as Architects and Lawyers. The material and technical base of Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography includes two major academic buildings, 3 auxiliary educational buildings, 2 dormitories, a sports camp and a library. Currently Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography has 7 faculties, 42 departments and staff of 600 skilled teachers. Every year Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography accepts 3500 students within Russia and 29 foreign countries.
